Tournament of Champions awards $5,000 in scholarships

Our first order of business on June 18th at Kellogg Bowl in Milwaukie was to award our All Star Teams. This award represents an entire season of battling for points at each and every tournament to accumulate enough points to make the top 5 and be on this team. All team members received $200 scholarships and the team captain received $250. See our “Results” page for details and pictures. Team Captains were Reagan Lorey of Vancouver and Donovan Grubaugh of Salem. In the competition, Classic Division winner was Brian DeLuisa-Anderson of Gladstone with his 2nd win in a row, earning that very difficult to get crown on his banner, “AA Champion was Ashton Yamasaki of Portland also earning a crown on his banner, “A” Division champion was Noah Wheeler of Kelso earning his banner (lime green, gray letters, pink crown) with his very first win, and Robert Jenks of Salem also with his very first win and earning his banner (very patriotic red, white, and blue crown). High game out of the cut was Tyler Coates of Milwaukie with a 279 and Caitee Moore of Vancouver with a 244.

garyGary Yamasaki to lead Oregon Junior Classics into the future

We were ecstatic to announce that longtime leader, author, and Hall of Famer in the Greater Portland bowling community Gary Yamasaki has committed to lead the Classics into the future. He rolled the OJC’s in it’s inaugural year, 1975 when it was the Pacific NW Junior Classics, then the name changed to NW Junior Classics and a few years later to the Oregon Junior Classic Tournament Association.

He is currently in the process of creating spreadsheets for on site computer use to streamline the effectiveness of the data entry processing of information and statistics. Something that has been desperately needed for a long time.

The transition process will take some time to accomplish with the large amount of special offerings the Classics present to it’s membership such as the 4 scratch divisions with club averages, All Star Teams, banners, fundraising, scholarships and much more.

HAVE YOU BOWLED AN OJCTA EVENT?

We are the oldest junior tournament membership club in the Northwest (maybe the entire country) and are a scratch only tournament club. That’s why we have 4 divisions, so everyone can fit into a scratch event that fits their average. What you see on the monitor is what you are bowling against. NO SURPRISES! Win an event and you earn a banner with your name on it. It will be displayed at all events as long as you remain active. When you leave juniors, you get to take your banner with you. Each event ends with award presentation. You bowl and leave with your award the same day. Our next open event is the Adult/Youth Classic at Allen’s Crosley Lanes in Vancouver on August 6th.

Discounts for Doubles discontinued

Due to many years of our doubles tournaments being carried by our singles events, we are no longer issuing discounts for our doubles events. Our cost for doubles is considerably higher than singles and need to stand financially on their own. Be prepared for a raise in entry soon.

Storm is now including us on their Junior Facebook Page. Join in the fun and post your “Likes” on this page.
